Review: After Dark (Night Owl #3) by M. Pierce

Blurb from Goodreads:
In the final novel of the Night Owl Trilogy from bestselling author M. Pierce, can a passion that has withstood many ordeals become a love strong enough to last a lifetime?

Matt Sky is trying to return to normal, having faked his death and come back to life. He and Hannah move back in together, and Matt attempts to put his demons to rest as they strive to grow their relationship into something durable and honest. But as the two become more and more entangled, and the heat between them intensifies in all the best possible ways, Matt’s desire for Hannah ignites cravings he has kept at bay for a long, long time…

Hannah finally has the life she's always wanted: she's pursuing her career as a literary agent at Granite Wing Agency, she is writing her first novel, and she is living with her hot, passionate lover. But as Matt and Hannah explore a new intimacy, Hannah finds that there are parts of Matt—dark, wild, uncontrollable parts—that he has yet to show her…that he has yet to show anyone…Under the surface of Matt and Hannah’s domestic bliss, deeply buried secrets burn, and all of a sudden, the least foreseen obstacle threatens to shatter everything they’ve worked so hard for.
My Review:
Probably my most anticipated book for this year after The Raven King and Marrow, I can honestly say that After Dark ripped me apart but also was the perfect ending to this sweltering, temperamental series.  After the surprising ending of Last Light, I was very curious to find out how the series would end.  Would it truly be a HEA?  I just didn't feel like that would do these characters justice and apparently the author agreed with me because there were certain times when reading this book during which I abandoned all hope of not only a HEA, but of Matt and Hannah ever even speaking to each other again.  I must admit, though, that they needed these obstacles . . . even though I wanted to personally slap each of them at times.

I absolutely devoured this ending to one of my favorite series of all time -- I couldn't put it down and as I turned the last page, all I could think was . . . perfect.  You can also read my review of the second book in this series, Last Light, here.  Both of the first two books in this series made my best of 2014 list, and I know the conclusion will be on my top ten list this year.

After Dark will be released tomorrow, March 24, 2015, you can purchase HERE, and I highly, HIGHLY recommend it!
Since I'd met Hannah, I wrote only about Hannah.  That beautiful woman . . . my sweet little bird.  Love is hysteria, and summer makes it worse.  Heat spreads the fever.  Madness.
"I'm having unsettling visions of domestic bliss.  Remembering, too . . . the first time I drove out here, and you came running across the lawn."  I pointed.  Ghostly sadness gripped me.  "God, I can still see it, the way you looked.  I can smell that night, taste it.  I know that . . ."
She touched my inner thigh.  "Go on."
I kept pointing, searching for words.
"I know that I'll die with those memories in me.  I know those are the kind of memories . . . that last."  I focused on Hannah.  Her face was vibrant, her expression unlike anything I had ever seen.  I knew that whatever had been left unsaid, she understood.  I also knew that the old cosmic trick was playing itself on me.  The greatest cynics fall in love.

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do! Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton

Conversations With Myself (& Hopefully You): ARC Greed

This discussion is inspired by my feelings lately when reading and reviewing ARCs versus the feelings I had when I requested those same ARCs: ARC GREED ARC greed -- have we all experienced this?  What I even mean by this term is that I sometimes feel overwhelmed when looking at Netgalley and Edelweiss and  I sometimes over-request, if only because I can!  I get greedy when I see all the new and shiny ARCs available and I will sometimes request things that have even a hint of interest for me, not necessarily focusing only on those books that I really, really want.  The problem with this over-requesting and with getting greedy with requesting (and receiving) ARCs is when it comes time to read and review these ARCs.  Last month and this month, I have looked at my ARCs with a release date in each respective month and I just haven't wanted to read any of them.  I need to start asking myself -- If I was immediately approved for this ARC, would I read it right thi
